- Volunteer at indigent-care clinics and nursing homes.
- Use Handshake to explore employers actively hiring in your field and search part-time jobs that can add experience to your resume.
- Become an associate member of Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED), join the listserv, attend meetings and participate in its volunteer and leadership opportunities.
- Continue core requirements and foundational science courses.

Becoming a primary care provider is a highly competitive and time-intensive process. Individuals interested in pursuing these areas will need to begin taking advantage of volunteer and shadowing opportunities early. Strong academic performance is necessary to matriculate into professional school. Due to the competitive nature of the medical field, it is recommended to develop a parallel plan not have a variety of options upon graduation.
