Course Selection

  • ACCT 2110 and ACCT 2210-Further develop quantitative and business conceptual skill sets.
  • HADM 3000 - Acquaint yourself with the fundamentals of the U.S. health care delivery and insurance system.
  • HADM 2103- Develop an understanding and knowledge base of medical terms, diseases, and conditions.

Ask for Assistance

  • Take advantage of Study Partners, SI sessions, and academic coaching in the Office of Academic Support.
  • The Miller Writing Center can help with your writing assignments and all other writing assistance you may need.
  • Meet with a department advisor and complete an application for admittance into the HADM major.

Gain Experience

  • Job shadow multiple health care administrators, put communication and leadership skills to work, and build university and leadership ties.
  • Use LinkedIn to identify past graduates in your major and set up informational interviews and shadowing opportunities to gain further understanding of your major in the world of work.

  • Join the Health and Hospital Administration Organization (HHAO).
  • Look for more opportunities on campus to engage by utilizing AUInvolve to identify organizations you are interested in joining.

Junior

Course Selection

  • Courses taken this year further develop knowledge of healthcare management and business processes, enhance verbal and written communication and leadership skills, and learn how to effectively function and operate as part of an integrated team.

Ask for Assistance

  • Meet with the HADM internship instructor to discuss upcoming internship requirements and interests.
  • Meet with HADM faculty to discuss graduate school options and planning for life after graduation.
  • Meet with someone in the University Career Center (UCC) to explore career options and receive individualized assistance.

Gain Experience

  • Conduct an internship interview with the HADM internship instructor one semester prior to the internship semester.
  • Attend job fairs and health care management related professional association meetings (local, state, and/ or national).

Get Involved

  • Pursue leadership roles in HHAO and/or other campus organizations.
  • Become a student member of one or more health care management related professional associations (ACHE, MGMA, HFMA HIMSS, AHIMA, etc.).
  • Pursue leadership roles in your organizations to exercise and enhance your communication skills.

Senior

  • Synthesize all previous course material into single Capstone project (HADM 4950).
  • Complete required internship course (HADM 4920).

  • Enhance skill set and professional development at internship site.

  • Apply for induction into the Upsilon Phi Delta Honor Society (UPD), a prestigious national honor society for healthcare administration, to enhance graduate school applications.
