Course Selection

  • BSCI 1100, BSCI 2300, BSCI 2200
  • You may consider a business minor. You will only need one additional class.

Ask for Assistance

  • Introduce yourself to your academic advisor and meet together at least once a semester through your tenure at Auburn.

Gain Experience

  • Use Handshake to explore employers actively hiring in your field and search for part-time jobs that can add experience to your résumé.
  •  Use LinkedIn to identify past graduates in Building Construction/Science and reach out to see about shadowing and internship opportunities.
  • Attend the McWhorter School of Building Science Career Fair to learn about careers in construction management and internship opportunities.

Get Involved

  • Join the Associated General Contractors (AGC) Builders Guild and begin to network and socialize with students in your field.

 

Sophomore

Course Selection

  • Once a student completes all 20 courses within the pre-professional program they can apply to the professional program. 30 students are selected every fall, 60 students are selected every spring and 30 students are selected every summer in the Co-op track based on GPA.

Ask for Assistance

  • Take advantage of Study Partners, SI sessions, and academic coaching in the Office of Academic Support.
  • The Miller Writing Center can help with your writing assignments and all other writing assistance you may need.
  • Sigma Lambda Chi, the International Construction Honors Society, offers free tutoring for your structures 1 class. We encourage all students to take advantage of this service!

Gain Experience

  • Consider options for Study Abroad. The Building Construction program has taken trips to China, Australia, and Ecuador as well as a dual-continent trip to Asia and Europe.
  • Check out the McWhorter School of Building Science Career Fair and start your professional resume.

Get Involved

  • Look for more opportunities on campus to engage by utilizing AUInvolve to identify organizations you are interested in joining.

Junior

Course Selection

  • If you added a business minor, we encourage you to finish up your minor during your junior year.
  • Double check your required class schedule with your academic advisor.

Ask for Assistance

  • Begin to speak with advisors, professors, and your career services specialist about building your résumé and professional portfolio.

Gain Experience

  • Attend the McWhorter School of Building Science Career Fair to talk with prospective employers about internship.
  • Complete an internship the summer between your junior and senior year.

Get Involved

  • Join a Competition Team coached by one of the faculty to gain problem solving experience within the field.

Senior

Course Selection

  • In your senior year, you will have the opportunity to take two Construction Elective, and one Business Management Elective.

Ask for Assistance

  • Meet with your academic advisor to complete a graduation check during your first semester of senior year.

Gain Experience

  • Attend the McWhorter School of Building Science Career Fair to talk with prospective employers about job opportunities.

Get Involved

  • Look for leadership opportunities in your organizations and attend a regional/national conference for a construction professional organization.

General Information

This program prepares students for a variety of careers within the residential, commercial, industrial, performance, and design fields of the building industry. Coursework emphasizes energy efficiency, sustainable design, construction processes and innovative materials using applied learning techniques and the most current computer software.
