Calling all communication, public relations majors who want to gain REAL EXPERIENCE and BUILD your portfolio of work in a fun fast-paced environment. You will be workforce ready when you leave!

The Collegiate Hotel (CoHo) is a 40-room boutique hotel located in downtown Auburn. We are actively seeking a dynamic, self-starter to serve as a communications intern. This internship is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of communications, sales and marketing.

This position will work directly for the hotel owner; a graduate of Auburn University with 23 years of communications experience with a Fortune 100 company and most recently as the developer/owner/operator of The Collegiate Hotel and Staks Pancake Kitchen.

This opportunity will provide insight into what an entry level career would be like working in communications supporting a business and specifically a hotel. You will gain hands-on experience and build a portfolio or work to prepare you to enter the workforce as a communications professional.

We are looking for candidates interested in a minimum work commitment of two semesters inlcuding as an internship that meets AU department guidelines. Student employees must be available and living in Auburn; commiting to ~20 hours per week.

Required qualifications include but are not limited to the following:

  • Currently enrolled in Journalism, Public Relations or Communications related degrees
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Second or Third year university student (must not be graduating within 12 months)

Communications Intern Responsibilities:

Schedule, update and maintain CoHo’s social media presence with owner input:

  • Developing a rolling 3-month content calendar for FB and IG
  • Creating content and images to ensure 3 posts weekly for FB and IG
  • Expand hotel video presence through video
  • Meeting weekly to assess timely content and ensure execution of SM strategy

Assist in planning, writing and managing quarterly newsletter sent to 5,000+ subscribers

  • Gathering content used in SM or other outlets
  • Drafting newsletter layout and copy

Various communication /PR opportunites to include but not limited to:

  • Draft, distribute and pitch news releases, media alerts
  • Design collateral materials including:
    • Bar Menus
    • In-room promotions flyers
    • Graphics and design development for hotel events and specials
  • Assist with updating hotel website copy with promotions, partnerships and specials
  • Assist with the creation of monthly blog content
