Power Engineering Intern
Engineering Services Protection Systems Alpharetta, GA (100% Onsite)
At Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL), we create technologies that improve the safety, reliability, and efficiency of electric power systems around the world. We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and innovative Power Engineering Intern to join our Engineering Services Protection Systems team in Alpharetta, Georgia.
This position is ideal for an Electrical Engineering student who wants to gain hands-on experience, work alongside industry-leading engineers, and apply classroom knowledge to real-world power system challenges.
The successful candidate will be available to work part-time or full-time during the school year and summer. Working only during the summer is also acceptable.
What You’ll Do
As a Power Engineering Intern, you will:
- Provide technical support to SEL engineers and customers.
- Develop and expand your knowledge of SEL technologies, products, and engineering processes.
- Assist with testing and validation of new and existing technologies.
- Analyze, document, and communicate test results and findings.
- Collaborate with experienced engineers on power system protection and automation projects.
- Contribute to meaningful work that supports reliable and secure electric power systems.
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Completion of at least two years of technical engineering coursework.
- Understanding of electrical power systems fundamentals, including:
- Circuit analysis
- Power flow concepts
- Power system equipment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Understanding of Boolean logic.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD is a plus.
- Ability to learn quickly and take on new responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of power system operation, control, and protection principles.
- Interest in learning about SEL protective relays, automation controllers, and related technologies.
