National Student Employment Week was organized in 1989 by the National Student Employment Association (NSEA) to recognize the invaluable contributions student workers make to our workforce. Student employees provide the support, creativity, and enthusiasm that aids in the operation of our communities and businesses. Colleges and universities across the nation have continued to celebrate National Student Employment Week each year during the second week in April. Each institution hosts unique events on their campus to celebrate student workers and the National Student Employment Association initiates recognition on both the regional and national level.
The Office of Career Success is hosting this year’s celebration with three exciting events. Below is a list of this year’s events. Please consider joining us in celebrating the hard work of our exceptional students!
Week of Events
Student Employment Awards
The Student Employment Awards are held in honor of students that have chosen to work while pursuing their education and to recognize outstanding Student Employment supervisors. Each year nominees are honored, and winners are chosen during a special ceremony sponsored by the Office of Career Success.
Student Employee of the Year Awards
Join us in celebrating National Student Employment Week (April 10-16, 2022) by nominating an outstanding student for Student Employee of the Year. Nominations can be submitted for one of two categories: On-Campus and Off-Campus.
Supervisors are asked to submit a 1-2 page nomination for their student worker highlighting the student’s accomplishments, abilities, and contributions as well as how the student exhibits the NACE Career Readiness Competencies. An example of the scoring rubric is linked below. Nominations will be accepted from January 3rd- February 3rd.
Supervisor of the Year Award
Supervisors play an important role in the success of student employment. In recognition of this important role, students are given the opportunity to nominate supervisors for the Supervisor of the Year Award.
We are not accepting Supervisor of the Year nominations at this time. To nominate a supervisor, students will be required to write a nomination letter. Nomination letters should be submitted online accompanied by contact information. Don’t miss this opportunity to tell us about your amazing supervisor!
*Please note: only one nomination letter per nominee can be submitted to the selection committee.
Foy Spirit Award
The Foy Spirit Award is a $1000 scholarship given each year in honor of the late former Dean of Students Dr. James E. Foy and his late wife, Emmalu Foy. The Foy family established the award to recognize and reward students that exhibit exceptional qualities of leadership, character and a commitment to the Auburn community while maintaining a job to help fund educational expenses.
Such a student demonstrates excellence while epitomizing the Auburn Creed. During National Student Employment Week a deserving student is recognized by Auburn University and members of the Foy family. Applications for the Foy Spirit Award are accepted via AUSOM Scholarship Opportunity Manager located on AU Access via the My Academics page.
